Our first ever Great White shark “Rachael” was placed in a specially designed harness and released approximately 3 nautical miles from the Gold Coast shoreline. Dr. Werry observed how other tagging techniques can stress the shark, so he developed this unique harness technique that allows sharks to calmly relax next to the side of a boat. This unique world 1st system allows the natural flow of water across the sharks body and gills and has been successfully used for large sharks, including our very first Great White aka Rachael! Before we released Rachael we fin mounted a SPOT5 satellite tag and an external acoustic tag. Rachael is a 2.4 metre female, juvenile Great White Shark!
